DEEP TISSUE / SPORTS MASSAGE

Treatment Times:

60, 90, 120 min

Price:

£60 / hour

What is Deep Tissue / Sports Massage?

A deep tissue / sports massage therapist uses traditional relaxation massage moves as well as many additional and advanced techniques like Soft Tissue Release (STR), Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) and Trigger Point Release (TPR) that allows the therapist to focus more on certain problematic areas in the body i.e. muscle tension and tightens in the shoulders / neck in order to promote healing and to reduce pain in the muscles.

Who benefits from it?

You do not need to be a professional athlete to benefit from this type of massage as many people will develop injuries and pain due to their life style i.e. many people in an office environment suffers from carpal tunnel syndrome, which is a repetitive strain injury (RSI) in the wrist due to working with a mouse on the computer or mums at home develop painful and tight muscles in their shoulder and lower back due to constantly carrying their little ones, they all will benefit from some of those advanced techniques already mentioned.

And of course some really enjoys feeling their muscle beaten into submission, they will also enjoy and benefit from the stronger, deeper pressure that is being used during the session.

These sessions will have longer lasting benefits, however, in case of a chronic problem or injury it is best to have regular treatments preferably in collaboration with other specialist and as part of a rehabilitation program to truly get to the source of the problem and to correct it.

THAI MASSAGE

Treatment Times:

60, 90, 120 min

Price:

£60 / hour

What is Nuad Bo-Rarn Thai Massage?

This is a truly amazing and uplifting treatment to have! Thai massage incorporates Chinese acupressure techniques as well as Indian yoga stretches leaving the body super relaxed, muscles become more flexible, which in turn improves joint mobility and the massage also restores the body’s natural energy flow.

An authentic Thai massage is performed on the floor with the receiver lying on a mat fully clothed. (Well, almost as in Thailand neither the receiver or the therapist wear socks, which is easier to do in a tropical climate than here in a crispy, oceanic climate!) The therapists use their thumbs, fingers, palms, elbow, feet to apply pressure on certain body parts over the client’s clothing in order to ease muscle tightness, encourage the energy flow and they also position their own body and the limbs and body of the client’s in order to perform passive stretches to increase mobility.

Who benefits from it?

This style of massage is literally beneficial for everyone, in fact in Thailand having regular Thai massage is part of their culture and is an integral component of Thai Traditional medicine too. Even the elderly and the less mobile can receive it as due to the vast and variable techniques the massage can be adopted to different positions i.e it can be received in side lying position if one can not lie flat on the floor.

Treatment Times:

Private / Individual bookings:   60 min

Corporate / Events bookings:   10, 15, 20, 30 min

Price:

£60 / hour

What is On-Site Massage?

It is also often called Seated Acupressure Massage, as  the therapist works along acupressure points, or Chair Massage. It is dynamic massage of the upper body: back, arms, shoulders, neck and head on a specially designed chair. This massage is aimed at releasing muscular tension, improving joint mobility, preventing Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), reducing pain and encouraging soft tissue recovery. The massage is performed over clothing - except for the longer sessions, please see below. The pressure can be light and relaxing or deeper to get those muscle knots worked out.

Who benefits from it?

10 - 30 min sessions

These shorter sessions are quick fixes to get you going, ease tightness in achy muscles and perk you up a little  but will not have long lasting benefits.

60 min sessions

These sessions will have longer lasting benefits, however, in case of a chronic problem or injury it is best to have regular treatments preferably in collaboration with other specialist and as part of a rehabilitation program to truly get to the source of the problem and to correct it. Please see description below.

During the first half of the treatment the massage strokes are applied over clothing then at the beginning of the second half I ask the client to take their top off (bras can stay on). I then wrap a towel around the client and use massage oils or sports massage cream to knead into the muscles. I incorporate deep tissue, sports and remedial massage techniques such as Soft Tissue Release (STR) to target and stretch out deeper muscles, to increase and prolong the benefits of the massage.

LAVA SHELL MASSAGE

Treatment Time:

60 min

Price:

£70

What is Lava Shell Massage?

Lava Shell massage is basically the little sister of  hot stone massage; it is a mobile heat treatment. The therapist is using a couple of heated Tiger striped clam (recycled from the Philippines where they harvest it for food) as a tool to deliver deeper pressure. The clam is super smooth and the heat warms the body up making you feel nice and cozy. The massage also increases tissue elasticity, reduces muscle tension, soothe pain-irritated nerve endings and draws more blood to any injured area that delivers more oxygen and nutrients to recover faster.

Sounds amazing, right?

Who is it beneficial for?

EVERYONE! I yet to meet a person who has not yet fallen in love with this treatment. It feels so super luxurious, smooth and comforting that even the most muscle bound person will appreciate the the calming and relaxing benefits of this treatment. That is a promise.

RELAXATION MASSAGE

Treatment Times:

60, 90 min

What is Relaxation Massage?

Relaxation massage is based on basic Swedish massage techniques when the therapist uses longer more relaxing massage strokes to promote relaxation both in the physical body by reducing tensions in the muscles and the mind as the receiver will feel calmer and more ready for the day.

Who is it beneficial for?

It is a great first session when you just want to get to know the therapist’s touch without wanting to commit to a longer session or to a treatment, which requires additional, more advanced techniques and for those who truly appreciates the psychological and relaxation benefits of the massage.

What is Indian Head Massage?

Indian Head Massage is the little brother of On-Site Massage: it is the massage of the back, neck and head just over and around the Central Nervous System therefore it is very stimulating and relaxing. When time allows it is also very beneficial to work on those tired arms and hands too. This treatment is a relaxing massage and is ideal for those who do not like strong pressure. Originally it is performed on a chair and is ideal in offices where the therapist is delivering the sessions at the receiver’s desk i.e. in a call centre, however, it can also be performed with the receiver sitting on an On-Site Massage Chair too.  No need to undress as I work over clothing except for the longer sessions as per below.

WESTERN STYLE REFLEXOLOGY

Treatment Times:

Private / Individual bookings:  60 min or 30 min ADD-ON to any other treatment

Corporate / Events bookings: 30, 60 min

Price:

£60 / hour

What is Western Style Reflexology?

The theory behind Western Style Reflexology is that all our bodily organs are reflected on our feet and by applying special pressure techniques with the thumb on certain pressure points will rebalance the energy flow in the entire body. It also helps easing stiffness and increases flexibility in the foot and is very stimulating and comforting at the same time. Shoes and socks needs to be removed before sitting in a specialised and comfortable reflexology chair as I directly work on the skin.

Who benefits from it?

30 min sessions

These shorter sessions are quick fixes to give you a respite from a busy life style but will not have long lasting benefits.

60 min sessions:

During this treatment I look out for muscle imbalances in the feet and also use sports and remedial massage techniques to mobilise the ankle joint and to strengthen weakened muscles. At the end of the sessions I always finish with a relaxing foot massage using oils or creams to soften and nourish the skin. These longer sessions are very beneficial for those who suffer from stress related symptoms such as insomnia, anxiety, disturbed concentration and for those who wish to improve their spiritual well being or just want to relax.

THAI REFLEXOLOGY

Treatment Times:

60 min

Price:

£60 / hour

What is Thai Reflexology?

Thai Reflexology is very similar to the Western Style Reflexology, as it is based the principle that all bodily organs are mirrored on the feet and by putting pressure on certain points on the foot will free up the energy flow in the corresponding organ / energy line. Some of the the differences are that the therapist uses massage medium (oil, balm or cream) pretty much from the beginning of the treatment, includes more foot massage techniques and the therapist works with a stick to apply pressure on the reflex points.

Who benefits from it?

It is very beneficial for those who suffer from stress related symptoms such as insomnia, anxiety, disturbed concentration and for those who wish to improve their spiritual well being or just want to relax.

MASSAGE + MEDITATION

Treatment Time:

90 min (60 min massage + 30 min meditation)

Price:

£80

What is this treatment?

In a nutshell (please find the longer explanation below):

During the treatment as you relax into the session you enter into a barely-awake, meditative mind state and your subconscious mind will be very receptive and open to engage with meditation. To take advantage of this I will either play a specific guided meditation or I will guide you though a meditation straight after the massage.

The massage - meditation ratio and  the type of meditation can be tailored to individual needs.

Who benefits from it?

If you are new to meditation or want to make positive changes in your life through meditation  then this session will help your mind becomes more familiar with this meditative state thus enabling you to practice meditation at home more successfully. It will also give a prolonged psychological and spiritual benefit of the massage.

The longer explanation:

This is an interesting one. We all know how great and relaxing a massage can be and many people simply nod off or are just barely awake during a session. In that ‘barely awake’ state the brain wave activity slows down to a lower frequency, which is called 'Alpha'. In this state we are more receptive, open, creative, less critical and we dip into the lighter state of awareness and this is the state where meditation begins.

From my personal meditation practice I realised that one of the reason why people give up meditation (including me a fair few years ago) is because they do not know what they need to feel and how to stay focused in a meditative state. So when I went back to meditation a few years ago and finally persevered practicing it, I realised it became easier each time I practiced it because my mind became familiar with the feeling and understood where it 'needed to be'.

I then took a meditation course that was based on the Silva-Method, which was more popular back in the 80ies and 90ies, however personally I found it amazing and it gave me an insight into the relationship between meditation and general well being. So I though what would happen if I combined massage and meditation and instead of ‘waisting’ that amazing Alpha state the client naturally goes into during the massage we can actually use it to do a real meditation session as well… The results are amazing, everyone absolutely loved it so far!

BENEFITS OF MASSAGE

Massage and Reflexology are holistic, healing therapies, which means that the person receiving the treatment will benefit physiologically as the body will feel better, stronger and more flexible; psychologically as the mind will begin to slow down, become calmer, feel more relaxed; and spiritually as the treatment will create 'inner space' that brings awareness to the body, mind and the inner Self resulting in better connectedness and ability to stay present therefore bringing quality to every moment.

PHYSIOLOGICAL BENEFITS

Our hectic, always-on-the-go and always-doing-something, millennial lifestyle has taken its toll on our physical body; whether you are spending long hours at your desk, leaning forwards to work on the computer and constantly looking at the screen, or you are at home forever doing chores, looking after the children, cooking for the family, or you are actively involved in some kind of sport, our musculoskeletal system is undoubtedly being put through a lot of demand and strain. Our posture suffers due to this excessive demand and our muscles become fatigued, tight, sometimes even damaged and torn, which creates pain and discomfort and can leave us feeling stressed, grumpy, unmotivated and defocused. The physiological benefits of the massage are quite well known but here are a few just to remind you:

  • after a treatment there is an increased blood circulation that helps delivering oxygen and nutrients to the cells and tissues in the body, which in turn enhances metabolism.

  • the lymphatic circulation becomes more efficient that helps eliminating toxins from the body

  • it improves joint mobility and the receiver will benefit from better body movements

  • muscle becomes more elastic, more flexible and will feel less tight

  • the body begins to secrete endorphins, which is the body’s natural pain killer

  • it is also great for injury prevention, muscle maintenance and an integral part of a rehabilitation program

  • overall it strengthens all organ systems that co-work together to achieve homeostasis / balance in the body

PSYCHOLOGICAL BENEFITS

That very busy lifestyle we live is not just adversely affecting our physical body but it also reflects in our thinking as well. As soon as we wake up our mind starts thinking about what happened in the past, how that  made us feel, what we need to do next, what our next project is, we think about commitments to our children, family, friends or work, we think about our next project and are making plans and anticipating the future all the time, already worrying about whether that future we wish to have would happen at all. Due to this continuous, non-stop thinking the mind can go into overdrive and can make us feel being overwhelmed, anxious and depressed. The psychological benefits of the massage are also well known and it is easy to understand why people seek those benefits.

  •  breathing becomes slower and deeper that activates the vagus nerve resulting in slowing down all bodily systems thus promoting relaxation

  • the body will releases neurotransmitters such as serotonin that contributes to wellbeing and happiness

  • we will feel more at ease and less pain in our body thus feeling less worried and our mood elevates

  • the body will release hormones that helps lower the stress level in the body

  • overall during a treatment the parasympathetic nervous system kicks in, which is responsible for general relaxation and the receiver will feel happier, think less and the treatment creates very much needed space in the mind

SPIRITUAL BENEFITS

I know this section might not be for everyone and some may think this is just a spiritual mumbo-jumbo and that is ok, I myself had been so busy previously with my family life and work that I made no time for my spiritual well-being and felt no need to do so either. There are plenty benefits, I have previously mentioned, that should suffice the curiosity of those wanting to know more about how a massage treatment benefits the receiver.

However, many may find this section interesting and some of its content might even resonate with them. To me, the spiritual benefits are just as important outcome of the massage as the physical and psychological part of it. It is very easy to think about ourselves as a body and mind only, forgetting that there is a very special ‘ingredient’ deep inside us; our ‘spirit’ or ‘essence’ that is crucial in us feeling truly happy and for living a joyful and fulfilling life. When our mind takes over and we begin identifying with its often damaging and painful ideas, thoughts and beliefs then we become unhappy, we will not be able to find joy in the little things in life and get disconnected from nature, intuition and become uninspired. These are some of the spiritual benefits you might experience during and after the treatment:

  • the space created in the mind during massage will bring us back to the present moment as our mind ceases spinning out of control and becomes more quiet

  • with this quietness comes awareness, a deeper sense of Self and we finally begin reconnecting with our spirit, with that non-physical part of us that we all have inside us

  • this awareness is a seed, which if further nurtured will become the beginning of an amazing inner, personal and professional transformation.

As you can see there are so many benefits of the treatments, it is hard to ignore them.  It is not just a luxurious treatment for only those who are better off financially but it is for every single person who takes responsibility for their overall well being and consciously want to do something positive towards their health . :-)
